The "Red module" with guiding lines for practicing Asian brush calligraphy. |
Asian Brush calligraphy has thousands years history. Regarded as the most abstract and sublime form of art in Chinese culture, "Shu Fa" (calligraphy) is often thought to be most revealing of one's personality. Brush calligraphy is not only loved and practiced by Chinese. Koreans and Japanese equally adore calligraphy as an important treasure of their heritage. I have studied, worked and become an artist, photographer and calligrapher, in Austin. As a very young child in China, I started practice brush calligraphy. I believe that Asian calligraphy is both a profound art form and a way to find inner peace. My calligraphy art works include framed pieces and calligraphy greeting cards. See my calligraphy art work catalog. I offer Asian brush calligraphy workshop. It is a 6-course workshop that meets once a week.. You do not need to know Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language to learn Asian calligraphy. Calligraphy is an abstract art of lines, shapes and balance; anyone can make the lines dance! Because calligraphy requires single-minded concentration, it can provide a means to relieve stress. Concentration brings forth patience, and inner strength. Calligraphy is a wonderful meditation form that allows you to find inner quietness and to clear your mind. It is a practice suitable for both adults and children. |
